Ellen DeGeneres Saves American Idol

When American Idol was born, I loved it. It was one of my favorite shows on TV. I didn't miss an episode for seasons. Then, the whole Chris Daughtry season 5 happened, and I began to lose faith. He was clearly the best and was eliminated WAY too soon. He was beat by some of the most worthless "talent" I have ever seen. Katharine McPhee?? Taylor Hicks?? Elliot Yamin?? Are you serious? And then, the next season, with the whole Sanjaya fiasco, and American Idol and me have been in a love/hate relationship ever since. I have decided to give it another chance this season.

If you read my other American Idol post, you know that it has started off a little shaky for me. I've never really enjoyed the auditions, because of previously mentioned reasons. That combined with the sad little guest judges have given me great doubts. And, I'd be putting it lightly by saying that I was disgusted with the upcoming introduction of Paula Abdul's permanent replacement, Ellen DeGeneres. I've never been a fan, and what does she have to do with singing in the first place? It seemed like an odd choice.

This week was Hollywood Week for American Idol, Ellen took her place on the judges panel, and she actually revealed to me what American Idol's problem has been for the past seasons...it has gone stale. And how did she reveal this? By fixing the problem. Ellen knows little about singing, but her comic relief does wonders for this show. Seriously, people, she is single-handedly saving American Idol for me. American Idol has been missing this "Ellen-Factor" its entire life. She lightens, and gives life to, a once dank and dark vibe that WAS American Idol. I recommend that others who have given up on American Idol tune in again and see if it's not a whole different story now.

We haven't had TV in a while so I haven't really watched AI for a few years. I must admit that I LOVED Adam Lambert. I'm a big fan of DeGeneres, so perhaps I'll starting watching online again.
