Okay, so I was on the American Idol bandwagon for about two seconds...
Did anyone else watch this week? The top 12 girls performed solos on Tuesday and the top 12 boys performed solos on Wednesday, and let me tell you, it was atrocious! I had many favorites make it into the top 24 from Hollywood Week so I was totally excited to hear them sing. Hey, don't judge me! I get excited for silly things. I thought it was going to be awesome. How wrong I was...how wrong! It was less like an awesome concert and more like a "who is going to pull ahead as the best of the worst"? Based on those performances, they could pick names out of a hat to eliminate and I wouldn't be surprised, or sad, to see anyone go.
What exactly went wrong? They could pick any Billboard song, for crying out loud, and what did they pick? The most cliche songs imaginable. These are songs that are on every karaoke machine on the planet...yes, even the ones in Japan. "Hand in Pocket" by Alanis Morissette, "American Woman" by The Guess Who, "What About Love" by Heart, and my personal favorite (sarcasm!!!) which has been sung TO DEATH on American Idol, "Feeling Good" by (most recently) Michael Buble.
I'm starting to consider the possibility that none of them could actually hear themselves sing, because I've never heard so many terrible notes on American Idol EVER. At least if you pick a crappy song, you should sing it well! Or am I mistaken?? I really want to know what happened from Hollywood Week to this week that made them all suck. It's a good thing they only eliminate a certain number of people each week or there would be a massacre!
Oh, and if that wasn't bad enough, Ellen has become the new, less-crazy, Paula Abdul. "I really like you, I think you sang it well, and I love your look...I hope people vote for you (even though that was terrible, terrible singing) because I really love you..." Gets some balls, Ellen! Say what you really mean! When you say the same thing to everyone, you're basically saying nothing. They can't all have a second chance just because you like them as people. And what happened to the jokes? Don't stop telling the funny, refreshing jokes, Ellen, please! Some of us are counting on them to survive!

I didn't watch it but I did hear that the singing was less than stellar. I also heard that they are going to continue to do the show after Simon leaves.
